And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings,
the people were astonished at his doctrine: For he taught
them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.
-- Matthew 7 verses 28 & 29 (Kings James Bible)
Jesus was a master communicator. He purposely chose
short simple stories to illustrate a moral or religious
lesson. However, they were more than just symbolic
expressions; His sayings moved people at the core of
their spirit, often leaving them feeling surprised,
overwhelmed, shocked and even speechless.
What baffled so many people was that Jesus was
indicating how something should be done or what sort of
action should be taken in a particular circumstance. He
did so with such power and authority that it mirrored one
having a high-ranking official position, not on earth, but
as in heaven.
He imparted knowledge to small and great by simple
instruction and example. He gave lessons in subject
matters of all kinds. He did all things in such a way as to
bring understanding of life and redemption to every soul.
Though many disputed it, by His conduct He clearly
demonstrated that He was the owner of the Word with
the right and power to command, enforce rules and give
orders. With that authority, He empowered others of His
choosing with the same official permission to act on His
behalf and to do likewise.
Anybody can tell, write or copy a story. Nevertheless,
Jesus is the origin of truth and the official body that
governs it.
May God’s Word powerfully fuel your life too.
