And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I
should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I
might receive my sight. -- Mark 10 verse 51 (Kings James Bible)
As often as Bartimaeus sat by the wayside begging in
darkness, he knew that Jesus passing by was a rare
opportunity. Against the wishes of others, He sought for
the Lord’s mercy. Jesus moved by Bartimaeus'
expression of faith, asked him a loaded question …
What would he have Him to do? Like receiving a blank
check, Bartimaeus had the rare opportunity to ask for
whatever his mind could imagine. Absolutely nothing
was off limits. Knowing exactly what he wanted, in
humility, respectfully asked for one thing, his sight.
Jesus gave it to him, plus a whole lot more.
And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way;
thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately
he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the
way. -- Mark 10 verse 52.
For the first time in his entire life, His spirit was whole.
He could now see with his own eyes, no longer having to
view life through the eyes of others. He was completely
free to determine how he would live the rest of his life
from that moment on. Being blessed, healed,
independent and full of life, Bartimaeus resided in the
light. Following Jesus assured him that he would no
longer have to settle for sitting by the wayside in a world
of darkness.
Asking the Lord for the right thing and in the right way,
will get you more than realize.
May God’s Word enrich and fulfill your life too.
